Tivo innovates: Lawsuits in 3...2...1...
Today Tivo announced the availability of their Tivo Desktop client that automatically converts and uploads videos to iPods and a host of their devices.
Whoops.
Looks like NBC doesn't like innovation since they started selling their shows on iTunes. From Variety:
"TiVo appears to be acting unilaterally, disregarding established rights of content owners to participate in decisions regarding the distribution and exploitation of their content," an NBC Universal spokesman said. "This unilateral action creates the risk of legal conflict instead of contributing to the constructive exploitation of digital technology that can rapidly provide new and exciting experiences for the consumer."
That's it. Tivo is a goner. No company can be this innovative in today's technological landscape and hope to survive the onslaught from the Hollywood cartels.
I hope to someday be a big shot media executive too. It's got to be the easiest job ever.
- Find new technology that makes people want to consume more media
- Get Hollywood media to run saber rattling story about potential legal action
- Get crack legal team to investigate possibility of legal action
- Sue innovative company
I'm sad to see Tivo go. They were great while they were around.

It will be back. Eventually someone will realize that all it takes to make the hollywood cartels look like idiots in court is to carry in an old black box.
We call it the VCR.
