How is Congress reacting to your opposition of SIRA?
We've been getting a ton of responses from people describing how Congressional staffers are reacting to the overwhelming opposition to SIRA and we want a way that everyone can track how the fight is going. If you've called a Congressional office, please leave a note in the comments of this post about how the call went and what the response was.
Just remember, when you talk to a staffer, be polite, but remind them how SIRA will fundamentally redefine fair use. Ask them if the Congress member is willing to publicly oppose this legislation.

No offence... but you guys are trying to wreck the best chance we've had in ages of getting exactly what we want.. free flowing music on the web.
Claiming the SIRA is the baby of "Big Copyright" is daft, becuae the RIAA is against it.. they are fighting as hard as you against it... that should tell you that you are doing something wrong.
This is the first attempt in ages to get rid of the artificial distinction between "streaming" and "downloading" (as sites like allofmp3 have been calling for), simplify and update copyright to a modern era and get close to exactly the "tax on all downloads" solution the EFF has been caling for for years.
Maybe you guys have spotted a flaw that the RIAA hasn't... or maybe you need to get some lawyers to look the bill over before getting all paranoid and getting everyone to write to their representative and defeat it.
I watched the webcast. The vote was unanimous and the bill passed the Subcommittee. Boucher and Lofgren spoke in support of the bill although they did want some changes.
If two of the four IPac "FabFour" spoke in favor of the bill, I think they might have even called it a big step forward, why is this bill the end of fair use as EFF and others have claimed and why are we being asked to waste time calling.
See the comment before this one. We've been duped by people who can't read the bill.
